Now revamped as a duo, Southern Halo returns with the uplifting “Don’t Let Another Day Go By,” premiering exclusively on Billboard below.
Formerly composed of sisters Nata, Tinka and Hannah Morris, Hannah has left the trio to go back to school. That’s not the only change for the Mississippi natives: Nata and Tinka are now working with a new producer, Cliff Downs.
Despite the changes, Southern Halo is still delivering its trademark harmony-filled songs. The first single from their forthcoming album (the follow-up to 2018’s Just Like in the Movies) provides hope in these troubling days. “Nata and I decided to release ‘Don’t Let Another Day Go By’ now because we feel like this is a perfect time to help inspire people to stop worrying about the future, or things that have happened in the past, and instead to simply just focus on the now,” Tinka says.
Though the coronavirus pandemic has everyone sheltering in place, the song’s lyrics are a reminder that even when life returns to normal, being in the moment is key. “With an upbeat tempo and bright harmonies, this song displays a message to remember to stop and smell the roses as you enjoy your journey,” Nata says. “It’s so easy to get caught up in everything going on in the world, so it’s a friendly reminder to ourselves and our fans to soak it all in and enjoy the little moments along the way.”
For Nata, the most meaningful lyric is “Slow down, let go/ Breathe it in, go with the flow/ Put a pause on want it all.” “Anxiety is something I struggle with so much so to the point that I find it hard most days to ‘stop and smell the roses’,” she admits. “This particular lyric inspires me to chill out, and focus only on the present moment. It really is such a stress relief once you are reminded that the only thing you need to worry about, and that you know you can control, is what you do in the now.
Southern Halo released its first EP, produced by Alabama’s Jeff Cook, in 2014. Much of their time since then has been spent on the road, appearing with such acts as Maren Morris, Old Dominion, Randy Houser and Brantley Gilbert.
Somethin’ in the Water is slated for a fall release.
