The 13 Best Things That Happened in Music This Week (Feb. 7)

This week kicked off in awe-inspiring fashion, as Shakira and Jennifer Lopez delivered an unforgettable tag-team performance during the Super Bowl LIV halftime show. A couple other team-ups made headlines this week, as Meek Mill collaborated with Justin Timberlake on a new song and Incubus and 311 announced a tour.

Justin Bieber's Changes track list also arrived this week, as well as the finalists for the Billboard Latin Music Awards. Plus, BTS broke a Social 50 chart record, Post Malone got another face tattoo, and Billboard's No. 8 artist of the 2010s was revealed.

Shakira and J.Lo delivered an epic Super Bowl halftime show

Between their respective hits and hip-shaking abilities, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira were undoubtedly going to put on quite the show during the Super Bowl LIV halftime. But their performance was so much more than just hip shaking (though there was a lot of it), as Shakira honored her Colombian roots with traditional dances and J Lo's part included a powerful statement about the humanitarian crisis at the Southern border, as well as an adorable duet with her daughter, Emme.

BTS broke the record for most weeks at No. 1 on Social 50 chart

The K-pop superstars' Twitter alone is enough to prove their power on social media, but now it's chart official. BTS held the top spot on the Social 50 for a 164th week on the chart dated Feb. 8, which surpassed Justin Bieber's 163-week reign for the most weeks at No. 1 on the chart. 

Marcelito Pomoy took everyone's breath away on AGT Champions

Pilipinas Got Talent Season 2 winner Marcelito Pomoy is now competing on AGT: The Champions, and on Monday night (Feb. 3), the Filipino singer stunned everyone with his solo duet of "Con Te Partirò." His ability to sing both tenor and soprano parts made judge Heidi Klum admit he's her favorite contestant, and even Howie Mandel asserted, “I believe you have the best shot of winning this whole thing."

Adam Lambert and 5 Seconds of Summer announced new albums

The album reveals just keep coming! Adam Lambert and 5 Seconds of Summer both announced 2020 full-length releases this week. Even better? They arrive on the same day, which isn't far away: Lambert's Velvet and 5SOS' Calm are both due March 20.

Katy Perry was revealed as the No. 8 artist of the 2010s

Billboard is gradually unveiling the top 10 artists of the 2010s leading up to the 2020 Billboard Music Awards on April 29, previously revealing Post Malone at No. 10 and Maroon 5 at No. 9. On Tuesday (Feb. 4), Katy Perry was announced as No. 8, thanks in part to her 11 top 10 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 in the decade, including eight No. 1s. 

LL Cool J gifted Eminem a Rock the Bells jacket

Christmas came late for Eminem thanks to LL Cool J, who gifted the "Godzilla" rapper with a black varsity jacket with "Rock the Bells" emblazoned on the back. The jacket had Em hyped, as he posted a pic wearing it on Twitter exclaiming "it came in a boombox box!" LL was quick to respond, writing "You’re absolutely welcome M !!!" 

Incubus and 311 announced a tour together

This summer is about to be the summer of rock and roll. Incubus and 311 joined the star-studded lineup of epic joint rock tours — which includes Motley Crüe with Poison, Def Leppard and Joan Jett; Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams; and Korn and Breaking Benjamin, to name a few — with their trek beginning in Aubrun, Wash. on July 15 and ending in Noblesville, Ind. on Sept. 5. 

Justin Bieber unveiled his Changes track list

Justin Bieber made do a little investigating in order to find out all of the song titles on his forthcoming album Changes, teasing the track list with an Instagram filter that said "What Changes track are you?" After some dedicated Beliebers took the time to uncover all 17 track names that flashed through the filter on Feb. 4, Bieber confirmed the full track list the next day.

Billboard Latin Music Awards finalists were announced

Bad Bunny and Ozuna lead the pack of finalists for the 2020 Billboard Latin Music Awards, both earning 14 mentions each. Several Latin stars also received 10+ nods: Daddy Yankee and J Balvin both have 12, Anuel AA has 11, and Farruko has 10. Bad Bunny, Ozuna and J Balvin are all in the artist of the year category, also competing against Romeo Santos. See the full list of finalists here.

Post Malone got (another) face tattoo

Just when you thought Post Malone may not have any more tattoo room on his face, he found another open spot on his left cheek. A Kansas City-based tattoo artist named Ruben revealed a tat of a bloody chainsaw that he did for Posty after the singer's concert at KC's Sprint Center on Wednesday night (Feb. 5).

Alicia Keys crushed a Billie Eilish cover

We already knew that Alicia Keys' voice is perfect for a Billie Eilish song when the two teamed up for "Ocean Eyes" on The Late Late Show in December. But Keys tackled another Billie song on her own in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge on Thursday (Feb. 6), delivering a riveting cover of "Everything I Wanted."

Meek Mill and Justin Timberlake, Nicki Minaj and more released new tunes

Just two days after teasing a Justin Timberlake collab titled "Believe," Meek Mill came through with exactly that on Friday (Feb. 7). But that was just one of the several big-name releases this week, as Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, Niall Horan and Khalid and Disclosure also dropped new tunes. Plus, Green Day delivered their much-anticipated album Father Of All, and the Birds of Prey soundtrack — featuring Halsey, Lauren Jauregui and several other badass women — also arrived. Taylor Swift dropped a lyric video for "The Man" 

T-Swift stereotype-crushing hit got the animated visual treatment on Friday, when the "Lover" singer unveiled the lyric video for "The Man." The clip features a woman dressed in a business suit and heels, struggling to find her way through a sea of men in suits in a bustling city. By the end, though, she finds just how powerful women are, walking alongside other females in suits and heels. Makes us eager to see the official video!
