Instead of rocking the stage at MGM Grand Garden Arena Sunday (April 5) in Las Vegas, country stars are celebrating the ACMs from their own living rooms. Such is life in the spring of the COVID-19 outbreak. Instead, ACM Presents: Our Country provided spirit-lifting, quarantine-approved programming, with an especially appropriate performance from Tim McGraw.
With much of the world going the extra mile to pay it forward, McGraw dedicated his selection to virus-fighting do-gooders everywhere. It was “Humble and Kind,” the 2016 ballad that’s already soundtracked countless graduations, family gatherings and other poignant moments.
“In this crazy time everyone is in their homes in different places, so we’re gonna do this one a different way,” McGraw said. With that, he and his three off-site bandmates — on acoustic guitar, keys and light percussion — delivered a touching, intimate rendition of the tender track. “Let yourself feel the pride but always stay humble and kind,” took on special significance this time.
Aside from McGraw, ACM Awards: Our Country featured stars like Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Lady Antebellum and many others performing hits from their own homes.
The rescheduled 2020 ACM Awards will now take place on Sept. 16.
