More than half a million viewers tuned into Billboard Argentina’s YouTube channel Thursday (July 9) for the “Argentina en la Casa” Online Festival, organized to help the country’s music industry workers.
Supported by coverage by Radio Nacional Rock, public TV and a Much Music special, the online gathering featured performances by more than 300 artists from all over the country, who were presented by journalists, radio and TV hosts, and other influencers.
The 30-hour live stream was trending in the top spot on both the country’s YouTube and Twitter during the broadcast, thanks to local DJs Fiesta Bresh, Fer Palacio, JMP, Chapa & Castelo, and Coneja China. On Sunday (July 19), national public TV will show highlights in a three-hour special.
The fundraiser supported employees of the live music scene who have been severely impacted by the suspension of concerts during the coronavirus quarantine, such as lighting and sound technicians, stage managers, logistics personnel and other staff involved in producing live shows.
On the Unidxs Por La Música project store, fans can purchase memorabilia donated by artists or make a monetary donation. SI foundation is in charge of distributing food and other basic necessities to music families in need.
Alongside artists, this initiative is being supported by record companies — including Sony Music Argentina, Warner Music Argentina, Universal Music Argentina, S-Music, Popart Discos, Pirca Records, Mueva Records, Agencia Picante, WK Entertainment, Leader Music, Buena Productora, Pirca Records and Indie Folks — independent producers and the Argentine Association of Press Agents.
Los Palmeras, who wrapped up the performances with their tropical rhythms, said: “It is an immense joy to be able to share this with everyone.”
Other performers included: Tini, Abel Pintos, Soledad, David Lebón, Gustavo Santaolalla, Luciano Pereyra, Los Palmeras, Khea, Maria Becerra, Coti, Axel, Miranda!, Sandra Mihanovich, Marcela Morelo, Lit Killah, Eruca Sativa, Kevin Johansen, Rodrigo Tapari, Natalie Pérez, Benito Cerati, Fran Vázquez, Omar Varela, Emmanuel Horvilleur, Emanero, Sol Pereyra and Enrique Campo.
They were joined by many more artists hailing from different corners of the country, such as Los Tekis (Jujuy), Vozenoff (Ushuaia), Chule (Pehuajó) and John C (Tucumán).
The event closed with a very special tribute to Mercedes Sosa, who would have turned 85 on Thursday (July 9).
