Tones and I unveiled the cheeky music video for her latest single “Ur So F**king Cool” on Friday (May 29).
In the clip, the rising Australian star (born Toni Watson) attends a party in a chic hotel with a number of over-the-top characters also played by herself, including a vapid beauty blogger, a wine-swilling, cosmetic surgery-obsessed grande dame and a bearded hipster with a penchant for massively oversized scarves and fake-reading pretentious literature.
“Walk into a party, feelin’ out of place/ Everyone’s too cool, everyone’s too fake/ I try to start a conversation but I can’t seem to relate/ (Yo, I’m about to get an Uber)/ ‘Cause you’re so fucking cool/ You’re just way too f–king cool,” she croons on the pre-chorus before the creeping beat drops in.
“I wrote this song after I went to a party and everyone there thought they were the coolest thing ever and I just thought ‘This is shit, I’m leaving,'” Tones and I said in a statement about the inspiration behind the track.
“Ur So F**king Cool” follows singles “Bad Child” and “Can’t Be Happy All The Time” as the latest one-off release from the Australian singer-songwriter, who became an overnight success story in May 2019 thanks to breakout hit “Dance Monkey.” (While the song peaked at No. 4 on the Hot 100 as Tones and I’s debut U.S. single, it also topped the charts in more than 30 countries around the globe, surpassed more than one billion views on YouTube and broke the record for most weeks spent atop the UK Singles Chart by a female artist at eleven weeks.)
