This summer, people everywhere are stuck inside and wishing that they could get out and enjoy the sunshine. Lucky for them, Trixie Mattel is here to give them a taste of what they’re looking for.
The RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 3 winner appeared during Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter’s Pride Summit for a special performance, sponsored by Mercedes-Benz, of her song “Malibu.”
Dressed in a rainbow vinyl jacket and her classic big blonde hair, Mattel appeared on screen with just an acoustic guitar and a microphone, giving fans a taste of the beach-rock that they’ve been missing out on this summer. “Take me to the ocean blue/ I don’t care, any beach will do with you,” she sang. “Singing every song we know/ In your transistor radio.”
The sun-soaked song comes off of Mattel’s latest album Barbara, where the star explored her plugged-in, minivan-rock sound. “I’ve done folk music; I’m ready to revert here,” she told Billboard upon the album’s release. “The Trixie we see on this record – Trixie in a swimsuit and pumps – was my original idea of Trixie.”
