Twenty One Pilots‘ Josh Dun and actress Debby Ryan are officially husband and wife! The couple confirmed they tied the knot on New Year’s Eve after fans spotted his wedding ring in the homemade “Level of Concern” music video.
And the two planned the whole wedding in just 28 days. “We began to flirt with the idea of having a destination party celebrating the new decade, then decided in December to get married in Austin] on New Year’s Eve, and just keep dancing until after the ball dropped,” Ryan told Vogue in an interview published Wednesday (May 21).
Although the Twenty One Pilots’ drummer proposed to Ryan in December 2018, the two executed the ceremony with haste after a close friend of Ryan’s passed away last summer, changing her entire perspective on life.
“He was excited that Joshua and I were getting married, and I never doubted that I’d know him through every coming phase of our lives,” she said. “When he passed, it really rocked me and put a lot of things in perspective. It didn’t feel important to wait anymore, to stop being busy, or for things to line up perfectly — intending to do things is not nearly as powerful as doing, as we aren’t promised tomorrow.”
Dun sported an emerald velvet Paul Smith suit for his big day with Nike Cortez sneakers, and Ryan wore her dream Elie Saab couture gown.
But the ceremony playlist couldn’t be more eclectic: The groomsmen walked out to a soulful rendition of “Gangster’s Paradise” by Coolio, Ryan waltzed down the aisle to “Hoppípolla” by Sigur Rós, and the newlyweds took their first steps together out of the church to a string arrangement of “All of the Lights” by Kanye West.
“The ceremony was the perfect balance,” the musician told the magazine. “I felt like it was game night at our house, and this was the ultimate game, and boy did I win! I remember every detail from how it felt to be walking down the aisle, to the full body chills I got watching Debby walk down toward me.”
