Vampire Weekend touched down on the Jimmy Kimmel Live! stage on Thursday night (May 9) for an inspired ramble through the Grateful Dead-vibed song "Sunflower" from their recently released double album Father of the Bride. Opening with a hypnotic triple guitar intro that ping-ponged between singer/guitarist Ezra Koenig and fellow guitarists Brian Robert Jones ad Greta Morgan supported by a three-piece horn section and a bouncy bass line, VW conjured some cool summer vibes.
"Sunflower in the morning/ Standing in the garden/ All before you wake/ No power can compel you/ Out into th daylight," Koenig sang as psychedelic images of the album cover swirled behind him and the band scatted along to the jazzy guitar loop before things slowed down toward the end of the song as if the players got stuck in molasses.
The group is aiming for it's third No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 next week, which could give them their third No. 1 to date. Over the weekend they celebrated the album's release with a six-hour, 56-song homecoming show at New York's Webster Hall.
