Shakira really brought out the best of her mixed heritages at the Super Bowl LIV halftime show on Sunday, which also happened to mark her 43rd birthday. Paying tribute to her half-Colombian and half-Lebanese roots, Shak’s performance included everything from Middle Eastern belly dancing to a Zaghrouta chant to some popular Afro-Colombian dances, including Champeta and Mapalé.
During an epic dance-off with Jennifer Lopez, who also co-headlined the Super Bowl Halftime Show, Shak and a large group of dancers flaunted a jaw-dropping Champeta choreography.
Following the epic performance, the Colombian singer — accompanied by her 18-year-old Barranquilla-born choreographer Liz Dany Campo Diaz — shared a step-by-step video on YouTube, so everyone can join the fun from home.
Shak’s performance has even sparked the Champeta Challenge on social media.
