Fred Armisen could totally pass as a member of Weezer. Serving as their comedic guide through the streets of Los Angeles on the latest episode of Carpool Karaoke? Even better.
The latest episode of the Apple TV series features Weezer — with a new, hair-metal-inspired album and stadium tour on the horizon — partnering with the actor/comedian/indie rock lifer on sing-along versions of some of their biggest hits. The new teaser clip starts off with Armisen and the band trying to get on the same page for “Buddy Holly” (songs without intros aren’t too karaoke-friendly) before showing some footage of the gang singing “Can’t Knock the Hustle” and a pair of prominent Weezer covers: TLC‘s “No Scrubs” and Toto‘s “Africa.” Weezer performs the latter full-band-style on a flatbed trailer as onlookers try to make sense of what’s going on.
It’s all part of what figures to be an action-packed promo campaign for Van Weezer, the band’s forthcoming studio album, which drops May 15 (lead single “The End of the Game” has already gone top five on Billboard‘s Alternative Songs chart). And starting June 3 in Germany, Rivers Cuomo and company will hit the road with co-headliners Green Day and Fall Out Boy on the Hella Mega stadium tour, which gets to North America in late July.
You can view the entire Carpool Karaoke episode on Apple TV’s app, but in the meantime, check out the trailer video below.
