As people around the globe continue to isolate indoors amid the coronavirus pandemic, online concerts continue to gain momentum with artists live-streaming from their very own homes.
That was the case on Saturday (March 28) when Christian Nodal, Gerardo Ortiz and Los Plebes del Rancho de Ariel Camacho joined forces for an epic live concert on YouTube.
Jaime González, music producer and Nodal’s father, hosted the concert in his house in Mexico, which included a full-on production with two hosts who presented each artist. While some of the staff wore masks and gloves and disinfected equipment after every artist, there was a point where social distancing wasn’t enforced and mics were shared. Hawk-eyed stay at home fans called them out for it in the comments section asking them to be more conscious of the situation.
Slated to begin at 8 p.m. ET, the concert began an hour later after some technical difficulties but it was all worth the wait. Emerging regional Mexican artists Franky Bojorquez, Brayan Sugich and Los Elementos de Culiacán kicked off the eventful live stream with back-to-back performances.
Then, it was the headliners turn with Los Plebes taking the stage first to serenade fans with songs like “Según Tus Labios,” “Hablamos,” “Te Metiste” and fan-favorite “El Karma.”
“We are taking advantage of this time to spend time with family while also working on new music,” Los Plebes’ lead singer Johnny Cortes said.
Following Los Plebes’ performance, Ortiz came on to perform to new and old hits like “Más Caro Que Ayer” “Para Que Me Ilusionaste,” “Otra Borrachera” and “La Última Sombra.”
“I miss the stage and singing to my fans,” Ortiz said. “I’m experiencing this quarantine with my family. Just spending time with my kid. Though, I want to go back to the stage already.”
Nodal was the last one to take the stage to sing hits like “Te Fallé,” “No Te Contaron Mal,” “Con el Alma Bien Dolida,” his Piso 21 collab “Pa’ Olvidarme de Ella” and his and Juanes‘ “Tequila.”
“Thank you to all who accompanied us,” Ortiz said. Nodal added, “I’m so happy that you’re here with us whether connected through your phone or computers. These are our real fans. Many of our fans don’t get to go to our concerts but those that continue to support us even online, those are true fans. Hope you all enjoyed it.”
Before signing off, Nodal and Ortiz performed for the first time ever together. The pair sang Ortiz’s “La Ladrona.”
