Zion from the reggaeton duo Zion & Lennox has been hospitalized. Billboard can confirm that the Puerto Rican singer was taken to a local hospital upon his arrival in Mexico City.
“We ask for a prayer chain for our brother @zion, for God to be in control and that everything goes well,” read a caption posted in the duo’s official Instagram account. The photo, posted in the wee hours of Wednesday morning (March 4), shows Zion in a hospital bed surrounded by medical workers.
No official statement has been made at the time of publishing.
According to Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Dia, Zion’s manager Zurdo said the duo was on the way to a performance at the Spotify Awards in Mexico when Zion began to feel ill on the plane. “Everything was fine and suddenly he had shortness of breath. I sent Lennox to the hotel when we landed and went with him to the hospital,” he said.
The duo is set to celebrate its 20-year anniversary with a U.S. tour dubbed Iconic Tour Twenty 20, set to kick off May 15 at The Forum in Los Angeles.
Zion & Lennox are finalists at the 2020 Billboard Latin American Music Awards, up for Latin rhythm artist of the year, duo or group, alongside Jowell & Randy, Wisin & Yandel and CNCO. The awards show will air live April 23 on Telemundo, following the three-day event and panel series LatinFest+ presented by Billboard and Telemundo in Las Vegas.
