5 Uplifting Moments in Latin Music This Week (May 2)

From career milestones to new music releases to major announcements and more, Billboard editors highlight the latest news buzz in Latin music every week. Here’s what happened in the Latin music world this week:

Jhay Cortez enters YouTube’s Billion Views Club

At the beginning of the week, Jhay Cortez announced that his music video for “No Me Conoce (Remix)” in collaboration with J Balvin and Bad Bunny entered YouTube’s Billion Views Club. “One billion views is one billion views,” Cortez expressed on social media. “For me, that’s nothing because what’s the coolest thing of all is that even 10 months later people are still listening to it when many people said the song would only last two months. This is a classic now.” “No Me Conoce (Remix)” dropped May 17, 2019, and reached over one billion views in less than a year.

J Balvin drops music video for “Rosa”

J Balvin released the music video for “Rosa” (Pink) off of his recent album Colores. Paying homage to the song’s title, Balvin teams up with his go-to director Colin Tilley for yet another monochromatic masterpiece. The pink-tinted clip, which dropped at noon on Friday (May 1), makes many references to the Japanese culture including scenes of Balvin surrounded by Cherry Blossom trees. “Rosa” follows the music videos for “Blanco,” “Morado,” “Rojo,” “Amarillo,” “Gris” and “Verde.” “Directing this #colores series for @jbalvin has been a serious highlight in my career and a very fulfilling challenge,” Tilley expressed on social media. “Hope you guys are enjoying the pieces. Cheers to the 7th release of the album.”

ASCAP launches Live from Home takeover series

ASCAP Latino kicked off its Live from Home takeover series May 1 with singer-songwriter Noel Schajris. The series will feature songwriters who will take over the ASCAP Latino Instagram account and post “real-time stories” throughout the day. The artists will also share “behind-the-scenes exclusive moments of their creative process and day-to-day experiences during quarantine,” according to a statement from ASCAP Latino. For his takeover, Schajris answered questions from fans and performed a few songs like Sin Bandera’s “Entra en mi Vida” and his forthcoming single “Hijo del Mar” inspired after the birth of his son Dylan.

Camilo & Evaluna make Billboard history

This week, Camilo and Evaluna took over Billboard’s Instagram to share an intimate look at their married life during the quarantine. The couple, which tied the knot on February 8, gives fans a tour around their home, showing the place where they make coffee, create music, exercise, play games, barbecue and even cuddle. Surpassing one million views in its first 11 hours, the IGTV takeover, which is the second episode in the Instagram partnership video series, became the most-viewed video on the platform, EVER.
