Green Day rewrites the record for the longest span of No. 1s in the three-decade history of Billboard‘s Alternative Songs airplay chart, as “Oh Yeah!” rises 2-1 on the April 18-dated tally.
The song, Green Day’s 12th No. 1, expands the trio’s run of leaders to 25 years, 10 months and one week, dating to its first week on top with the prophetically titled “Longview,” its first entry on the chart, in June 1994.
Green Day bests Red Hot Chili Peppers, whose span of Alternative Songs No. 1s covers 24 years, nine months and two weeks, from October 1991 through August 2016. Beck ranks third, as he’s stretched his leaders over 23 years, 11 months and two weeks, from February 1994 through January 2018.
Green Day nears the Chili Peppers’ record for the most total Alternative Songs No. 1s since the chart began in 1988.

“Oh Yeah!” is Green Day’s first Alternative Songs No. 1 since “Still Breathing,” which reigned for five weeks starting in February 2017.
Concurrently, “Oh Yeah!” rules the all-rock-format Rock Airplay chart for a second week, with 8.8 million audience impressions, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. It ranks at No. 2 on the Mainstream Rock Songs airplay survey after two weeks on top and ascends 26-22 on Adult Alternative Songs.
“Oh Yeah!” is the second single from Father of All…, Green Day’s 13th studio album, after the title track reached No. 3 in November. The set debuted atop the Top Rock Albums chart dated Feb. 22 with 48,000 equivalent album units earned in its first week.
