In 2019, rapper Klassik Poet. released an independent album called “Before Things Get Weird”. Speaking of weird, in the midst of trying times like COVID-19 taking over the world, the unjust killings of Ahmad Arbery, George Floyd, and Breonna Taylor, plus the political scope, have all set it ablaze. In suburban black America during this time, Klassik Poet made it his duty to actively participate in organized rallies, speak at community protests, and give his honest thoughts on racism and capitalism through interviews with local news outlets.
The White Plains, New York native, who has slowly built a name for himself by way of sold out NYC underground shows, radio interviews with Shade 45 and Power 105.1, plus a European tour, felt like he was lost between two versions of himself, one where he’s an activist, standing in solidarity with his people and preaching positivity, and the other where he’s a confident borderline cocky rapper, immersed into the vices of a music industry he’s not completely familiar with just yet. That internal struggle planted the seeds for what has become KONTRADICTION.
With only 8 songs in just under 30 minutes, the tape highlights the growth of Klassik Poet overall. To stream KONTRADICTION, play here: https://ffm.to/kontradiction
