Kendrick Lamar has fans awaiting his next move, but in the meantime he can be heard on Terrace Martin’s new album Drones.
The Compton kingpin appears on the title track, which also features Snoop Dogg, Ty Dolla $ign, and James Fauntleroy. Over Martin’s electro-funk sound, K-Dot speaks to the times, while Snoop keeps the soulful jam session going.
The song’s concept came about six years ago following the release of To Pimp a Butterfly. According to a press release, “Terrace Martin, in a philosophical conversation with Lamar, discussed a growing desensitization and a general lack of compassion amongst society. This conversation quickly led to the birth of the title track, ‘Drones.’â€
The Grammy-nominated producer and instrumentalist’s star-studded album also features collaborations with Leon Bridges, Cordae, Robert Glasper, YG, D Smoke, Smino, Kim Burrell, and Hit-Boy.
Kendrick, who will perform at next year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, is readying his final TDE album. He can also be heard on Baby Keem’s album The Melodic Blue.
