During a recent appearance at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum, Vice President JD Vance offered a moment of levity while discussing his new book, Communion. The Vice President, who was detailing his personal journey into faith and politics, found himself addressing a chapter in his work titled, “More Money, More Problems.”
The title serves as a clear nod to the 1997 hit song “Mo Money Mo Problems” by the Notorious B.I.G. In a moment of sharp irony, JD Vance decided to poke fun at the fall from grace of Diddy, jokingly referring to the former rap mogul as a “great Christian theologian.”
“Well, again, I’m a millennial and so I believe that’s, uh, that’s the wisdom of the great Christian theologian P. Diddy,” Vance remarked to the audience. He quickly followed up with a clarifying jab, adding, “Who, as we found out over the last couple years, is very much not a Christian or a theologian.”
The audience responded with laughter, though the Vice President appeared momentarily uncertain about the reception of his quip. Beyond the humor, Vance used the moment to pivot back to the core themes of his book. He explained that the chapter title was inspired by his own early life, a period where he prioritized financial success and prestige over spiritual fulfillment. He noted that as his fame and wealth increased, so did the complexities of his life, eventually leading him to seek clarity through his faith and family.
The reference to Diddy comes at a time when the former music executive is serving a 50-month federal prison sentence. Following a conviction for two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution last July, his legal situation remains a point of public discourse. While his release date was recently adjusted to April 25, 2028, the cultural impact of his downfall continues to be a subject of commentary, even in political circles.
