Attorney Tony Buzbee, who previously represented the anonymous woman that filed a rape case against Jay-Z, has issued a sharp response to the latest developments in the ongoing legal saga. For those following the case, the individual known as Jane Doe initially accused the music mogul of rape, only to later recant her story, claiming she had never actually met the rapper.
In the wake of these developments, Tony Buzbee—who has been countersued by the artist following the initial filing—has publicly alleged that the woman was financially incentivized to retract her claims. According to Buzbee, the sudden reversal is both “irrelevant and inflammatory,” characterizing the move as “bought-and-paid-for.”
“Carter and his attorneys are now advancing testimony that they either know is probably false and perjurious, or, at best, know is offered by a witness (Jane Doe) that they have spent two years calling inherently unreliable, and who has repeatedly offered sworn testimony that is directly contrary to the testimony they secured by dismissing her,” Buzbee’s legal team stated in a recent filing.
While Jane Doe maintained during her sworn testimony that she received no payment for her retraction, she has since been dropped from the countersuit initiated by the rapper. Consequently, the legal focus remains on the ongoing litigation between the artist and Buzbee’s associates. As the situation continues to unfold, the validity of these conflicting testimonies remains a central point of contention in the courtroom.
