Courtney Love Remembers Kurt Cobain on Their 28th Wedding Anniversary: ‘This Man Was an Angel’

Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain married 28 years ago on Monday (Feb. 24), and the Hole frontwoman marked the anniversary with an Instagram post to pay tribute to her late husband.

The rocker shared a sweet photo of the two on their wedding day. In the image, the late Nirvana frontman sports a big grin while holding a bouquet as he and Love link arms, their hair windswept, in front of the ocean.

“28 years ago , we got married , in Honolulu, on Waikiki beach,” Love wrote in her emotional caption. “28 years ago I recall feeling , deeply, delighted , dizzy , so in love, and knowing how lucky I was . This man was an angel. i thank him for looking out for me.”

The Grammy-nominated musician — who also noted that she spent the day walking her dog, lighting some candles, and lunching with her best friend — went on to reflect on how trying life has been at times, but that her late husband helped get her through it.

“Many parts of the last 28 years have been torturous chaotic and uphill, and in public?” she continued. “That is the darkest s–t imaginable, it almost tapped my resilience , almost. But between Kurt’s strange amazing divinity , and the honor of a few true friends , the gift of desperation and sobriety.”

“I see him on the shore . Rocking in the free world,” she concluded. “My husband.”

The two Seattle grunge icons were married for two years before Cobain died by suicide on April 5, 1994. They share a daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, who is now 27.

Days before marking their 28th wedding anniversary, Love shared a black-and-white photo of Cobain on Feb. 20 sans caption on Instagram. It would have been his 53rd birthday.
