The family of Sean Gathright, one of the four men recently convicted in the 2024 murder of Jacksonville rapper Foolio, has publicly addressed a wave of backlash directed at them following the creation of a GoFundMe campaign. The fundraiser, which was launched on May 15, aims to raise $24,000 to assist with legal expenses, though it has seen limited financial support as of this writing.
On May 18, the family issued a statement via Instagram, expressing their distress over the intense hostility they have encountered. They reported that the campaign has been repeatedly flagged and removed, while family members and loved ones have been subjected to direct death threats and persistent harassment.
Foolio’s killer’s family claims they are getting death threats and harassment over his GoFundMe page.
“We want to address recent reports being made against Sean’s GoFundMe,” the statement read. “While we completely understand that not everyone will choose to support, going as far as reporting the fundraiser, sending threats and harassing not only Sean but also his loved ones and family members is truly mean-spirited and completely out of control.”
The family urged those who oppose the campaign to simply disengage rather than resorting to aggressive behavior. “To those that do not support [Sean], we respectfully ask that you simply block, disengage and move forward toward causes you do support rather than hate, threats and negativity,” the post continued. Gathright has also utilized his social media presence to thank those who have offered their support during this period.
The legal proceedings surrounding the case have been high-profile. On May 8, Sean Gathright, along with co-defendants Isaiah Chance, Davion Murphy, and Rashad Murphy, were found guilty on all charges related to the 2024 killing. While the jury voted against the death penalty on May 15, the four men are currently awaiting sentencing, which is scheduled for June 22.
