A top echelon artist in the UK underground, West London rapper Finn Foxell continues to up his game with the convulsive and imperative ‘Pressure’, ahead of his new 8 track EP ‘Talk is Cheap’. Having dazzled while experimenting with a variety of different sub-genres, from raw grime to ambient chill hop, this cut feels like Finn has found a sound that suitably allows a degree of introspection, whilst also remaining hard hitting. The track is accompanied by a devilish, Lynchian video, directed by Delphino, which suits the track perfectly.
Somewhere between Giggs and Slowthai, the instrumental is moody and engrossing, with the simple synth melody line both ominous and catchy. The bass and drums are busy and the instrumental as a whole is well paced and captivating. The lyricism is full of subtle wordplay and brazen, provoking references, with well structured flows. The chorus is memorable, and Finn’s laidback but particular and meaningful delivery, which seems to work on any type of beat, works well here.
A quality and exciting track, this is going to be a big year for an artist who has been flirting with the big time for a while now. If the whole EP is as good as this track, don’t be surprised to see Finn Foxell gaining an army of followers.
