After collaborating with Four Tet and Skrillex on “Baby Again..†last month, Fred again.. has returned to grace NPR’s ever-so-beloved Tiny Desk stage. The British electronic artist offered viewers a sample from his popular live shows, performing seven songs from his Actual Life album trilogy in 26 minutes.
In real-time, Fred again.. played the piano, marimba and vibraphone while singing and looping beats throughout the showcase, which was set in the foreground of a screen displaying videos for each song. On the set list, the dance music purveyor included “Kyle (i found you),†“Me (heavy),†and “Adam (interlude)†from Actual Life (2021), “Roze (forgive)†and “Faisal (envelops me)†off of Actual Life 2 (2021) and “Berwyn (interlude)†and â€Delilah (pull me out of this)â€Â from Actual Life 3, which was released last year.
According to NPR Music, the translation of Fred again..’s electronic music to the Tiny Desk stage was initially a daunting task. “How would an artist, whose performances take the form of DJ sets in front of massive audiences, curate an intimate and unique experience?†the video description reads. “But what the British songwriter and producer came up with is a reminder of what a Tiny Desk is at its best: an opportunity for artists to challenge themselves in such a way that it almost feels like they’re making new music, all while sticking to what feels true to them.â€
