(G)I-DLE premiered a new English version of their hit debut single “Latata” on Wednesday (May 20).
In the new lyric video for the track, the K-pop girl group details a tale of heady desire as they declare their devotion to an irresistible new flame. “There ain’t nothin’ I won’t do for you/ Fall with me, lata/ Love ya/ Dance the night away with me/ Let me sing for you, lata/ Love ya/ Latata, latata, latata, latata, latata, latata, latata, latata/ Sing for me until you’re burned in my memory, latata/ Love ya (love ya)/ Every day, every night, latata,” Miyeon sings on the danceable chorus with an assist from Shuhua on the track’s rat-a-tat ad libs.
“This is a gift for NEVERLAND all over the world,” (G)I-DLE tells Billboard exclusively, referring to the group’s beloved fans. “You may only have been able to enjoy the melody before, we hope you can now relate to the lyrics and have fun listening!”
Originally released in 2018 on their debut album I Am, the Korean version of “Latata” introduced the world to the six-piece girl group — which also includes Minnie, Soojin, Soyeon and Yuqi — and gave the act its first hit on Billboard‘s World Digital Song Sales chart, peaking at No. 4. (The sextet’s latest EP, 2020’s I Trust, recently earned them the best U.S. sales week of their career, bowing at No. 4 on the World Albums chart upon its release in April.)
