Jesse McCartney performed a throwback mix for his Billboard Live At-Home on Tuesday (April 28) to raise money for the Center for Disaster Philanthropy, which supports healthcare workers in areas heavily impacted by COVID-19.
Rest assured, McCartney’s pre-2010s discography isn’t “Leavin'” his setlist anytime soon: The teen heartthrob kicked off the concert with the top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hit. His longtime guitarist Dory Lobel pre-recorded videos of his acoustic solos so McCartney could play them throughout the social-distancing-friendly set.
Since he can’t be leaving his house anytime soon, McCartney expressed how ready he feels to release his fifth studio album. The 33-year-old pop star described his latest single “Yours” as “very reminiscent of where I am today in my life” — not in quarantine, per se, but in love. He’s working out the kinks of the acoustic version, but the song’s strong ties to his romantic relationship with his fiancée Katie Peterson and his “personal growth” are a sure sign of “what’s to come on this album.”
Some late stragglers to the show worried in the comments whether they had missed “Beautiful Soul,” but McCartney swooped in at the right time with his timeless, mature-sounding rendition of what a fan called (and McCartney concurred) as “one of my favorites.”
