Jury Decides Against Death Penalty for Foolio’s Convicted Killers

The four men convicted in the murder of Jacksonville rapper Foolio have avoided the death penalty, with a jury recommending life in prison without parole.

The jury in the high-profile murder case of Jacksonville rapper Foolio has officially decided against the death penalty for his convicted killers. On Friday, May 15, 2026, the legal proceedings reached a pivotal conclusion as the penalty phase wrapped up in court.

A week after being found guilty of conspiracy, murder, and attempted murder in connection with the rapper’s May 8, 2024, killing, the four defendants—Isaiah Chance, Sean Gathright, Davion Murphy, and Rashad Murphy—appeared for the final day of the penalty phase. Following a week of intense closing arguments, the jury rejected the prosecution’s request for capital punishment, instead recommending that the four men serve life sentences without the possibility of parole.

The defendants are scheduled to be formally sentenced on June 22. This development follows the conviction of a fifth individual, Alicia Andrews, who was found guilty of manslaughter last October. Her sentencing has been postponed as she currently pursues an appeal for a new trial.

During the trial, prosecutors successfully argued that the defendants stalked and executed Foolio as part of a violent, ongoing gang conflict in Jacksonville involving the 1200 gang, ATK, and 6 Block, the latter of which Foolio was affiliated with. The rapper was fatally shot while sitting in a vehicle outside a Holiday Inn in Tampa, Fla., on June 23, 2024, while in the city to celebrate his birthday.

Investigators detailed how Isaiah Chance and his girlfriend, Alicia Andrews, tracked the rapper throughout Tampa, relaying his location to the other three men. Surveillance footage captured the group opening fire on the vehicle in the hotel parking lot.
