After receiving a makeover from fellow South Korean imprint Andersson Bell, the popular ASICS Gel-Sonoma 15-50 silhouette now gets a rework from Matin Kim for the duo’s first global collaboration. The upcoming Matin Kim x ASICS series dubbed, “Tracing Ego,†features three colorways of the Gel-Sonoma 15-50 created with the question “what shoes should I look for when I go on a journey to find my own ego?†in mind.
With each shoe personifying its own contemplative mindstate, the most conservative of the bunch is the “Glacier Grey/White†pair appearing in clean leather uppers with a gridded mesh base and the silhouette’s defining hiking elements including nylon eyelet loops and deep treaded soles. Special details arriving as part of the collaboration include thin lock laces and mismatched co-branding across the patent leather tongue tabs and insoles.
Other offerings in the lineup include a light “Black/Pure Silver†colorway incorporating a teal mesh base and an aquatic “Oasis Green/Pure Silver†colorway featuring turqoise hits on the heel combined with earthy hues of dark brown and green across the uppers.
Look for the Matin Kim x ASICS series to release on March 15 via the Matin Kim website and offline stores.
Elsewhere in footwear, Nike and Puma will no longer use kangaroo leather for soccer boots.
