Prada Is the World’s Hottest Brand Again, Balenciaga Falls Dramatically, and Versace Rises

Each season, the Lyst Index reveals who’s hot and who’s not: for Q1 2023, the winner is Prada. Dominating the top spot for the second consecutive season, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons‘ label remains stable in first place, subsequently knocking Lyst Index titans further and further down the leaderboard.

But before we get into the details, let’s celebrate the brands that have climbed to the top of the ladder this quarter. In second place is another Miuccia baby, Miu Miu. It claimed its highest ranking since the Lyst Index began, growing in cult demand thanks to its knock-out Fall/Winter 2023 runway show, the pocket bag, its New Balance collaboration, and becoming the it-brand for the IYKYK fashion glitterati.

In third is Moncler, placing the same as last year. Valentino climbs one spot into fourth, LOEWE climbs two places into fifth, and Bottega Veneta remains in sixth. Dolce & Gabanna comes in at seventh, while Versace jumps five places into eighth — one of the biggest growths this quarter. Why? Because of the incredible star-studded FW23 runway show that took place days before the Oscars in Los Angeles, in turn generating more than 39.8 million views on TikTok and a 44% search increase.

Gucci, once the Hottest Brand in the World on multiple occasions, fell seven places into ninth. No reason has officially been given, but it might have something to do with Alessandro Michele leaving, the House subsequently not having a Creative Director for one season, and having to play catch-up. Only time will tell if Gucci can reclaim its superiority in the next quarter. Rounding out the top ten is Saint Laurent, remaining in this spot.

From 11th to 20th, we find — in order — Dior, Nike, Louis Vuitton, Diesel, Burberry (climbing three spots thanks to Daniel Lee), Fendi, SKIMS (making its Lyst Index debut), Balenciaga in 18th, falling by seven spots as a knock-on effect from the controversy and the divisive FW23 runway show, Jacquemus, and another first, JW Anderson coming in at 20.

Per Lyst Index: “Jonathan Anderson is the third creative director to be at the helm of two of the Lyst Index’s Hottest Brands over the same quarter, following in Virgil Abloh’s and Miuccia Prada’s footsteps.” Therefore, this is quite an achievement for the increasingly-significant designer.

Brands to look out for include Ludovic de Saint Sernin’s Ann Demeulemeester, the Hailey Bieber, Rihanna and Sydney Sweeney-cosigned Magda Butrym, and the Ella Emhoff, Irina Shayk and Alexa Chung-worn label Khaite. As for the Hottest Products in the World, UNIQLO‘s $20 USD shoulder bag claims the top spot, while Rick Owens’ $625 USD Kriester sunglasses, Diesel’s denim maxi skirt, Weekday’s genderless Astro Loose Baggy Jeans, adidas‘ Gazelle sneaker, Bottega Veneta’s drop earrings, Alaïa’s Le Coer bag, MSCHF‘s Big Red Boots, and MM6 Maison Margiela‘s Salomon collaboration all feature in the top 10.
