About four months ago, Teyana Taylor released her third studio LP The Album, in which 23 tracks were featured along with artists such as Lauryn Hill, Big Sean, Davido, Missy Elliott, Future, Kehlani, Rick Ross, Erykah Badu, Quavo, and more. He also released a new visual from his project for “Concrete,” featuring production from Travis Marsh, 1one Ca$h, and NOVA WAV. In this track, Taylor can be seen singing about seeking transparency and honesty in a seemingly one-sided relationship:
“My body’s your addiction, your touch is my affliction, I speak, you never listen, somehow we stay consistent, rehearsin’ my thoughts on the way to your crib, oh/
Overnight bag in the back of the whip, you d***motize my feelings, then judge the way I’m healing, I thought you grew up Christian…/”
The visual which was directed by Taylor features a pregnant Teyana Taylor with her husband Iman Shumpert, both of who flip flop between making love and verbally fighting with each other, thereby aligning with the song’s lyrics. However, it is important to note that the passion between the couple is very evident throughout the video.
The Album comes right after K.T.S.E. (Keep That Same Energy), which was released in relation to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music drops back in 2018. Featuring eight tracks as well as a few assists from Mykki Blanco and West himself, the project was produced by him in its entirety. Before this project, Taylor released her debut album VII and the EP The Cassette Tape 1994 in 2014 and 2015, respectively.
Recently, i-D, Teyana Taylor spoke about expanding her horizons and entering into video production:
“Sometimes I love creating for others more than I love creating for myself… With directing, I get to actually sit behind the lens and really help our artists bring a vision to life.”
