When they said that the game would never be the same and experience a cultural reset post The Big 3 beef, they weren’t lying. Rap is outwardly competitive again, and after Joey Bada$$ going off at LA rappers (including responses back from younger rappers like Ray Vaughn), we now have a new feud brewing. Yep, this time, it’s Freddie Gibbs who has taken the onus.
Freddie Gibbs just put out a track called, ‘The Big 2,’ which is an obvious shot at J. Cole and the way he moved during The Big 3 controversy (and potentially how Cole is also a fan of ‘shit’ bars; hence, the “number 2.”) But wait, don’t let this distract you from who Freddie is going wholeheartedly at Benny the Butcher (for the most part) and JPEGMAFIA. Both of these are rappers Freddie has sours relations with, and some of it is even personal. I mean, just have a look at these bars he supposedly spit for Benny the Butcher:
“I seen my ex ho with the opps, I never get into drama (Nah)/
They both got crackhead mommas, they got some shit in common (Haha)/
N***a you was born an addict, p***y n***a asthmatic/
Don’t fuck with the rabbit, the day you die, bitch, I’ma hashtag it/
(N***a pissed on himself when he got shot)/”

Right after, Freddie also drags in JPEGMAFIA with a bar (which was originally a tweet by Freddie) that goes, “My naked ass got more promo than your album,” where he trashes JPEG’s album project by alluding to his own controversial picture, where Freddie had his behind exposed in an intimate setting. In fact, Freddie’s use of a sample by RnB trio SWV itself is a way to get at JPEGMAFIA, who used a sample by the trio on his recent release, ‘Valentines Day Freestyle ’25.‘
The two have indeed had sour relations since last year, when JPEGMAFIA called Freddie Gibbs a “fake gangster.” In fact, to recap, here’s a list of things JPEG tweeted:
“Protect your b***h, protect everything, man, because you, there’s nothing gangsta about you, son, except your name.”
“One of us got a kid with a d**k dent in their head, one of us don’t,” he began. “One of us got their a*shole spread online, one of us don’t.”
“One of us get their a*s beat annually like Family Matters. This s**t is like a recurring sitcom, n***a. One of us don’t”
“”Who’s really gangsta? I’m gangsta, n***a. You haven’t done anything gangsta in your whole muthaf**kin’ career except get your a*s beat, get your baby mama f**ked on camera and get embarrassed.”
“So stay in the gym, bro because it’s useless, them muscles ain’t helping you. They didn’t help you at the brisket.”
Well, it seems like the past is not the past anymore and that we might see another exhibition in the game. What do you think?
