Rapper Fenix Flexin has shifted the narrative surrounding his viral success, “RUBBERZ,” finally acknowledging that artificial intelligence played a role in the track’s development. This admission follows months of public pushback from the artist regarding speculation about his creative process.
On Friday, August 7, 2026, the former Shoreline Mafia member addressed the controversy directly via an Instagram comment. The discussion was sparked by a fan who questioned the rapper’s use of technology, particularly in light of Tyga’s recent disclosure that he utilized AI for his 1980s-inspired album, $tarface. In his response, Fenix clarified that he never explicitly denied the use of AI, but rather maintained that it was not part of his primary recording process.
“Never said I didn’t use AI, I said it had nun to do w recording process,” Fenix wrote. “I didn’t even know what da app was till we mixed it and erybody started commenting. Ain’t nothing wrong w using new technology as a tool. Keep up w the times or get left behind.”
When “RUBBERZ” first began climbing the charts—eventually reaching No. 66 on the Billboard Hot 100—Fenix initially attributed the song’s distinct sound to his use of Auto-Tune, reverb, and a stylized U.K. accent. Back in June, he dismissed accusations of AI involvement, stating, “No sirrrrrrr, recorded same as all music I do. Only difference is auto tune reverb and me using my fake UK accent lol.”
The debate intensified on July 30 when producer Medasin alleged that the track was created using Treblo, a music generation platform formerly known as Sonauto AI. Given the stark departure from his usual vocal delivery and the song’s 1980s synth-pop aesthetic, the conversation regarding the extent of AI’s influence on the record has remained a hot topic among fans and industry observers alike.
