Four People Charged With Murder in Pop Smoke Investigation

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced on Monday (July 13) that two men and two teenagers have been charged with killing rapper Pop Smoke in February.

Corey Walker, 19, and Keandre Rodgers, 18, were charged with murder with the special circumstance allegation that the murder occurred during the commission of a robbery and a burglary. The complaint also alleges gang and gun allegations.

Plus, two male juveniles, ages 17 and 15, were each charged with one count of murder and robbery in juvenile court.

Walker and Rodgers are to be arraigned today in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. They face the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted as charged, with the decision to seek capital punishment coming at a later date.

The 20-year-old Brooklyn rapper, whose legal name is Bashar Barakah Jackson, died at his Hollywood Hills home on February 19 of a gunshot wound to the torso, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office. A 911 call from a friend of someone in the house reported armed intruders inside the home, police said.
