Ahead of his return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3, Hugh Jackman recently revealed that he suffered permanent damage playing the X-Men mutant hero. During an appearance on BBC’s Front Row, the 54-year-old actor shared that playing the ferocious character since 2000 has put a toll on his vocal cords.

Through nearly 10 appearances, Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of the animalistic nature of Wolverine through grunting and yelling has caused to his voice. “I’ve done some damage to my voice with Wolverine. My falsetto is not as strong as it used to be, and I directly put down to some of the growling and yelling.” Aside from playfully noting how it has affected his surprisingly good singing voice, Jackman said that his drama school teacher would be “horrified” learning how he strained his voice.

Ending by sharing the lengths he goes to when preparing for a role, “I work with a singing teacher, and I try not to hurt myself. I put a lot of effort into both physical movement and my vocal preparation for every role.”

For more entertainment news, Tom Holland is rumored to appear in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
