Rolling Loud leveled up its international experience in 2023, offering multiple festivals presenting the best in global rap music in unique settings. Happening on the beaches of Portimão in Portugal’s southern Algarve coast, the opening day of the second annual Rolling Loud Portugal brought out thousands of fans to the picturesque, sandy setting. Though the sun beamed down during the day, fans from all over Europe kept hydrated and stayed enthusiastic, offering an energetic welcome to some of the most exciting artists in music today.
The first day of Rolling Loud Portugal 2023 brought extravagant spectacle in the form of Travis Scott‘s concluding set. The artist also known as La Flame performed hits from his decade-long career with a stage design inspired by his upcoming album UTOPIA. Lil Uzi Vert performed songs from his recently released Pink Tape, massive UK rapper Central Cee performed hits from his recently released Split Decision EP (a collaboration with Dave), and Latto put it on the floor again, representing the Dirty South like only she can.
Rolling Loud Portugal was also a showcase for some exciting underground heroes and rising stars. Destroy Lonely led a contingent of rappers from Playboi Carti’s OPIUM label, including Ken Carson and Homixide Gang. Newly-minted XXL freshman Luh Tyler played one of his first-ever international sets. Italy’s Rondodasosa performed, displaying the talent that made him his home country’s biggest drill star, as did Portuguese rappers like Wet Bed Gang and T-Rex. The crowd saved some of their most enthusiastic reactions for American rising stars like Bktherula and Eem Triplin, who brought out his close friend $NOT as a special guest.
Stay tuned for much more from Portimão as the week moves along, including headlining performances by Playboi Carti and Meek Mill.
