East Tampa’s Taleban Dooda has a knack for crafting melodic tracks with a flex-heavy flow, that to me comes off as a cross between The Dream and NBA YoungBoy. He’s burst onto the scene with songs like “Tru Colors” and “Dis Dooda,” which VICE recently named “one of the best songs to usher in fall.” Well, the fall has arrived, and now he’s teaming up with an elite duo of hit-making producers, TM88 (and ATL Jacob (Future, Roddy Ricch), for a brand new single, titled “Finish Him.”  The cold track provides a cinematic surround-sound background for Dooda to talk his smack, complete with thunderous 808s and twinkling synth bells. Weaving through the beat’s negative space with a bruised toughness, Dooda offers a stern warning who would stand in the way of his ability to provide for his family: “I know you aren’t my homie, cause you’d let me starve/Even though I always sin, I still repent to God/It took so long for me to win, I got so many scars/Until I picked up that pen, now I’m livin’ large.”

Though the East Tampa native only started rapping at the age of 15, he used his innate sense of melody to gain inroads in his state’s rap scene. After working hard to build a backlog of bangers, Dooda struck gold with “Tru Colors,” his first-ever release, racking up over 2 million streams, generating over 1 million views on its YouTube video, and reaching #18 on SoundCloud‘s worldwide New & Hot chart. The Tampa teenager kept the momentum going with collaborations with his frequent rap partner Rees Money, and successful video singles like “2 In Da Morning” (700k views). Stay tuned for much more from the teenaged rapper as he continues to develop into one of the South’s most exciting rap talents.
