Will Ferrell is gearing up to potentially take a role that will see him playing NFL’s John Madden, according to a report from Deadline, citing multiple sources close to the matter.

Amazon and MGM are developing a biopic entitled Madden based on the legendary coach and color commentator. David O. Russell, who helmed the film Amsterdam last year, will direct. Russell co-wrote the script with Cambron Clark and was reportedly in the process of undergoing a rewrite when work was put on pause due to the writer’s strike.

Madden is produced by Todd Black, Jonathan Shukat, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch for Escape Artists.

The film will be released as a Prime Video Sports Original, telling the come-up story of the Oakland Raiders head coach, who never had a losing season during his decade-long tenure. It’ll additionally touch on the stress of the job, his close friendship with Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis and his eventual pivot to commentating for CBS and Fox.

In other entertainment news, here’s everything coming to and leaving Netflix in June 2023.
