In a significant development regarding the ongoing legal proceedings, Lil Durk will not be taking the stand to testify in his high-profile murder-for-hire trial. The decision marks a pivotal moment as the defense team officially rested its case this week.
On Thursday, September 3, journalist Michael Blackshire reported that the defense had concluded its presentation of evidence. It was confirmed that Lil Durk, alongside his two accused co-conspirators currently on trial with him, Deandre Wilson (OTF Dede) and David Lindsey (Browneyez), would not provide testimony.
“The defense has fully rested. Durk Banks (Lil Durk) Deandre Wilson (OTF Dede), and David Lindsey (Browneyez) will not testify,” Blackshire wrote on X.
As of this writing, the trial has reached its tenth day. The charges stem from allegations that the Chicago rapper orchestrated a 2022 hit on Quando Rondo, purportedly in retaliation for the 2020 murder of King Von. While the target, Quando Rondo, survived the incident, his cousin, Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson, was tragically killed during the altercation.
Throughout the week, the defense called upon a wide array of witnesses to support their case, including Tonya Johnican, the sister of his former security guard Big Country; Kevin Freeman from the Neighborhood Heroes non-profit; and Shekema “Queen Kema” Springfield, the mother of one of King Von’s children. Additionally, Sanchay “Dharmic” Jain, the former SVP of Marketing at Alamo Records, provided testimony alongside other associates.
The core of the defense’s argument is that Lil Durk had no involvement in the alleged plot. Instead, his legal team contends that one of his co-conspirators, Kavon Grant, also known as OTF Vonnie, acted as the “mastermind” behind the situation. Lil Durk has maintained a plea of not guilty throughout the proceedings. If convicted, he faces the possibility of life in prison. The court is expected to move into closing arguments on Tuesday, September 8.
