It has been over two years since Olivia Rodrigo released her sophomore album, Guts, in late 2023. The wait for new music is finally coming to an end, as the singer-songwriter is set to release her latest project, You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love, this June. Today, April 17, she offered fans the first glimpse into this new era with the release of the music video for her latest single, “Drop Dead.”
The visual accompaniment for the lush, melodic track is nothing short of spectacular, featuring the opulent backdrop of the Palace of Versailles, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Paris. Following the video’s premiere, Olivia Rodrigo took to Instagram to share her excitement with her followers:

I love this song so much!!! it’s the first chapter in the story of ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love’ and it makes me wanna skip around and roll the windows down and make out! I was lucky enough to film the music video at the palace of Versailles a few months ago with the wonderful @petrafcollins and I’m so stoked with how it turned out. I hope you guys love it as much as I do xoxoxoxo.”
In a recent interview with British Vogue, Rodrigo provided further context regarding the thematic direction of her upcoming album. Discussing her approach to songwriting, she noted, “I realized all my favorite romantic love songs were beautiful because they had a tinge of fear or yearning in them.”
She also highlighted the influence of her time spent in the United Kingdom on the new record. “I’ve found a lot of inspiration from being in London. I’ve spent so much time here over the course of making this album. It has a lot of songs that are London vibes, about experiences that I’ve had here,” she explained.
